CVV | CENTRO DE VALORIZAÇÃO A VIDA
I have been a volunteer at CVV since August 2, 2022, and my SHIFT are every Tuesday from 3 to 7 in the morning.
CVV stands for "Centro de Valorização da Vida" in Portuguese, which translates to "Life Valuation Center".
The CVV is a Brazilian non-profit organization that provides free emotional support and suicide prevention services. It operates through a national network of volunteers who provide emotional support and a listening ear to people in distress, including those who may be considering suicide. The CVV's services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, through various channels such as phone, chat, and email.
The contacts with CVV are made through the phone number 188, which operates 24 hours a day, and the calls are 100% free. Additionally, people can access the services personally at over 120 support centers or through the website www.cvv.org.br, using chat and email. Through these channels, there are more than 3 million annual services provided by approximately 4,000 volunteers spread throughout Brazil.
“Today, I called CVV and it was really nice. A kind lady with a calm voice talked to me, and I cried a lot, but the experience of talking about everything with a stranger is very liberating. If you need help, call 188.”
Why?
Did you know that every 45 minutes a person commits suicide in Brazil? Well, I didn't know either. Until on August 8th, Father's Day, in 2021, my father became part of this statistic. He was an Umbanda follower, and according to his religion, this is a serious crime, and whoever commits this "mistake" ends up with their spirit lost and without light, unable to reincarnate. If there is a silver lining in this story, it's that I'm an atheist; so, I decided to prove the opposite and allowed my father to incarnate in me. Now, together, for the rest of this life, we will try our best to help anyone in need. So, if you are going through a tough time or know someone who is, give us a call or send an email, and we will get in touch.
